A Favorite Author:Lois Ehlert

I have a seven year old reading buddy.  We read together for about an hour a week at her school library.

Thanks to the suggestion of the librarian, Mrs. Raby, Danielle and I have been reading books by Lois Ehlert, and we really like them. Reading several  books by the same author has given us the opportunity to see similarities in the way she constructs her books and how she chooses to illustrate them.

The author and artist comes from the beautiful state of Wisconsin.  She is a great lover of nature and it comes though in her writing as well as her pictures.

She has an unusual artistic style, using real objects as well as cut outs to fill every inch of every page with color and information. In her book about birds she gives a great follow up guide to all the birds she has shown.

She has written several books, so children become familiar with her style, and feel comfortable with the exciting format.

Danielle and I give Lois Ehlert two thumbs up to show our approval.  We choose her as one of our favorite authors. Check her out!
