Bingzy's Building Self-Esteem In Children
By Eric Richards • Jul 31st, 2009 • Category: press
We’ve witnessed it too many times — children getting upset because they’ve been teased or bullied at school, daycare, at the playground, or even at home by siblings. Soon children dread going to school and other places that kids gather. Positive self-esteem can turn things around, and that’s where Bingzy comes in. Bingzy teaches children to be strong and says:
I draw my strength from deep inside.
In storms, I never let it hide.
I use my brain and think things through.
I lead, not follow what others do.
No matter what race, color, creed, or socio-economic background, all children need to be surrounded by inspiration, positivism, and compassion. Arlene Richards, an award-winning teacher, saw firsthand the encouraging, record-breaking results of positive reinforcement during more than 45 years teaching in the inner city schools of Los Angeles. A “can do” approach has always been the foundation of her teaching. To reach out to even more children, Richards offers That’s Bingzy! Busy Building Self-Esteem to help children ages 3-7 realize their potential through positive rhymes and colorful images. Focusing on the words Strong, Powerful, Healthy, Loving, Harmonious, Creative, Successful, and Happy, That’s Bingzy! will help start children believing in themselves while building in them the notion that if they continue to try, their dreams can become reality.
Louis Zimmerman’s vibrant illustrations for every concept make the meanings clear even to toddlers. For further reinforcement of the ideas, a sing-along audio CD is packaged with the book. The CD is fun to listen to and uses old familiar tunes, which helps children catch on to the rhymes. Richards’ motivation in creating the character Bingzy was to instill positive values in all children, starting as young as possible.
Imagine a world where children are confident about who they are and what they can achieve. What a wonderful world this would be!
