Sad things happen every day, especially in a big city, but this could happen in the smallest hamlet.  When I read about it in the LATimes, I felt compelled to pass it on to you, as a caution.

A father left his three year old son in a parked car while he made a call at a pay phone. He turned off the engine, but left the key in the ignition with the radio and power on.

His son was in the back seat playing.  The father turned his back, and did not see the child as he apparently moved into the front seat and hit the button that activated the power window.

He suffered a severe neck compression injury. Nothing could be done to save his life.

The father may have done the same thing many times without any consequence, but the last time will give him a lifetime of regret and sadness at the loss of his son.  He and his family have my sympathy.

Please don't repeat other people's mistakes.  Let's learn from them, and protect our kids from one more possibility of harm. Keep the window lock on the windows and always remove the key when you leave a child in the car.  Better still, don't leave a child unattended.
