Discipline and The Doting Grandparents
By The Schoolmarm • Mar 3rd, 2008 • Category: parentingMany moms and dads are astounded at what push-overs their parents have become since they became grandparents.
"You would never have let me get away with that!" Casey said to his father, looking down at his small son. His dad answered, "Yeah, well I don't take life so seriously now, he's just a little kid, what does he know? Cut him some slack!" Casey winced and walked away, not wanting another confrontation with his father over how to discipline his own child.
Grandparents are wonderful for children and they certainly can be a blessing, but problems arise now and then: they may not adhere to the parents' rules of discipline, or in the reverse – they sometimes are too strict.
Harmony among those you love strengthens your family's emotional well being, so it is a good idea to seek answers together, instead of setting rigid rules.
How about your family? Have you had to lay down some firm guidelines with "the folks" to follow where your kids are concerned?
We'd love to hear from you! Add your comments at the bottom of the page.
