My seven year old reading buddy, Danielle, is a big fan of Eric Carle, author of the classic book, written in 1969, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The book has sold over twelve million copies and has been published in over twenty languages.

She is part of the latest generation of kids who loves his brillant collages and inventive use of die-cut pictures. One of her favorites is The Very Clumsy Click Beetle, which has the sound of the beetle built into the book via a chip.

Another book, The Very Busy Spider, uses collages of specially prepared paper with the spider webs raised so they can be felt, as well as seen by the reader.

Eric Carle has produced many books that you will find at the bookstore or library. Danielle and I give two happy faces for our approval of this favorite author.

As Danielle observed: "Know why I read so many books today? Cause I like them!" Enough said.

Leave a comment, tell us your child's favorite book. (You probably could recite it by heart!)
