credit: law_kevenDanielle, my seven year old reading buddy, introduced me to one of her favorite authors, Doreen Cronin. Just holding the books in her hands made her smile because she had read them before and knew what to expect. She assured me I would like them and she was right.
Click, Clack, Moo, Cows that Type and Giggle, Giggle, Quack, both written by Doreen Cronin with pictures by Betsy Lewin, will have you laughing along with your kids. How unusual is this: cows learned to type and all day long the farmer heard, “click, clack, moo”? Then his problems really got out of hand when the cows started leaving the farmer typewritten notes and making demands.
Doreen Cronin’s understated text and Betty Lewin’s expressive illustrations make the most of this hilarious situation. From the well worn pages of the books, I could tell that Danielle isn’t the only one who finds them rib-tickling!
They are N.Y. Times Bestsellers and Caldecott honor books. Parents and grandparents, these would be great gift books for your kids or their friends.
Enjoy reading with your children every day. It is a great bonding experience and will give them more incentive to improve their reading skills. Make sure that you relax and allow yourself the pleasure that comes from silly situations. Shared laughter, as found in these books, will give you both a lift. You’ll see.
