Little Children Love to Learn
By The Schoolmarm • Jun 1st, 2009 • Category: educationalWhen Devon Jessica visited me recently, she announced that she knew the artist of the picture in my bathroom.
“Matisse,” she said confidently.
She was right, and I was surprised.
I would not have been so surprised, except D.J. is four years old and in the first semester of Kindergarten.
It demonstrated her memory, perhaps for the style of artwork, (female figure cut out of blue paper ) or the picture itself, but something brought back the name of the artist to her bright young mind.
Children absorb an amazing amount of information in the first few years of life. It is an awesome responsibility to guide, teach and inspire them.
A smiley face, a sticker, and a hug to Devon for paying such good attention, and kudos to her excellent Kindergarten teacher in Santa Clarita, California, who is making a difference in young lives.
( I’d hate to admit how old I was before I ever heard of Henri Matisse.)
