Parents: Don't Forget to Personalize the kids' School 'Stuff'

This is just a reminder, in case you have forgotten: write your kids' names on all their possessions.
- If you haven't already, get out the Sharpie and write names in jackets, coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, and any other removable garment that your child could leave somewhere on the school campus. (That's assuming you don't have time to sew in name tags.)
- Be sure to personalize backpacks and lunch pails too. Sometimes there are several just alike in one classroom. If lunch sacks are carried, then have your children write their names on them every day.
- Don't wait until things start disappearing, do it now.
Stress to the kids that they should tell you as soon as something is missing. That way you can notify the school immediately. If you wait for a week or two the chances of getting the item back in good shape get slimmer.
You may need to go to the school and visit the lost and found box yourself, especially for your very young children. I'm always amazed at the clothing that is never claimed and is ultimately given to charity.
Good luck keeping up with those things you have so lovingly provided for your kids. I'll hope with you that they learn to be responsible this year and don't lose a thing !
