What Are You Teaching Your Kids?

I believe Emerson was correct when he said we are always teaching. By implication he is saying that someone is always learning from us, by our words and our actions.

In the classic movie, "A Christmas Story", when Ralphie says the 'mother of all bad words,' his parents are shocked, appalled, even though he heard profanity from his father every day. It is an entertaining movie but it also makes the point, doesn't it?

We send our kids mixed messages all the time. If we want to teach decency, kindness and fair play, then we must consistently demonstrate that in our daily lives.

For example: By our words and actions we teach our children whether we believe all men are created equal or if we feel superior. They observe on a daily basis how we relate to the world around us. They are the most astute judges of whether we are for real and if our words can, or can not be trusted.

It is an awesome responsibility to be a teacher, and dear hearts, you as parents are the first and most influential of all teachers .

What are your children learning from you? Scary, isn't it?
