Crafts For Kids!
By Arlene Richards • Feb 23rd, 2010 • Category: activities for kids, tuesday treatsDo your kids have those dreaded rainy day blues? Are they asking again and again, “What can I do?”
It’s been raining for the past three days, so I decided to find some rainy day activities that your kids are sure to love. I visited the Better Homes and Gardens site (CLICK HERE) and was happy to find some craft ideas that are easy, inexpensive, and provide family fun.
What’s Hot? Sock Puppets!
If you enjoy sewing, try making sock puppets. Sock puppets are classic kid favorites, and they can design and create their very own. Check out these simple ideas they are sure to love!
Jolly Giraffe Sock Puppet

This giraffe sticks its neck out in style. A knee sock creates the long neck, and felt forms the trademark spots and more.
What you need:
. Scissors
. Socks
. Sewing machine
. Batting
. Black felt
. Black buttons
Instructions:
1. Cut lollipop-shape horns, oval ears, and eyelid shapes from the matching sock. (If the partner sock has stripes on the cuff, you can incorporate them into the eyelids for flirty lashes.)
2. Stuff the horns with batting; stitch closed and cover the tips with black felt. Sew the horns and ears in place.
3. Use the eyelid sock pieces, white felt circles, and black buttons to create the eyes.
Furry Panda Sock Puppet

Take a safari to the crafts store to pick up some faux black fur for your exotic panda puppet.
What you need:
. Socks
. Scissors
. Batting
. Sewing Machine
. Buttons
Instructions:
1. Cut the fur into arm, leg, ear, and eye shapes; stuff with batting, stitch closed, and sew onto a white athletic sock.
2. To give your panda a bit of a punch, cut the toe from the matching sock, stuff it with batting, and sew it onto the puppet. Add buttons for a nose and pupils.
Visit the Better Homes and Garden site to find more craft ideas. There are many ideas that might strike your interest, and don’t involve sewing.
