Children don't miss much and they certainly don't miss when we are unfair or inconsistent. Mixed messages are confusing and harmful. When we don't react to their inappropriate behavior we are sending a message as much as when we correct them. It is all about focus and what we value. Sounds as if we agree! It goes back to the "nature or nurture" debate. I believe it's BOTH. We are born with open hearts, right, and those can be fostered and massaged in order to keep them open. As parents and teachers, we need to not just TALK about loving others but DEMONSTRATE it by our words, thoughts and actions. Great article - thanks! This is great.
