This Election Year: Wow! Teach Your Kids History in the Making

Even our youngest children can become familiar with the voting process. This year is gearing up to be one of the most exciting in many years. As you know, this is the first time in American history when we have an African-American , a woman, and a war hero vying for the hardest job in the world.

  • No matter what your politics, engaging your children in the sense of history that is taking place is a responsible thing to do.
  • According to their age you can educate them to what it means to cast your ballot.
  • Let them see the information booklets, to let them know that you are making important decisions and that you don't take that power lightly.
  • If you vote by absentee ballot, as many choose to do now, then explain why you vote at home instead of going to the polling place.
  • Keep the language simple and appropriate for the age and interest level.
  • It is also great time to emphasize to children how blessed they are to live in a democratic society. Let them know that not all people have the same freedom of choice that we have.

Don't miss this opportunity to teach a real life history lesson and make your vote count.
