- Stay involved – supervise the kids and cooking at all times.
- Clean hands – make sure everyone washes their hands before and after touching raw eggs and meat.
- Watch that sampling – cookie dough may be tempting, but don’t sample it until cooked, because of the raw eggs.
- Hot is hot – teach kids to stay at least three feet from cooking food.
- Use safe tools – gauge the tools by the age of the child.
- Be careful around open flames – don’t allow paper or dish towels near the stove top.
- Pot handles – turn them toward the rear of the stove.
- Avoid steam burns – remove pan lids slowly and away from you, allow food to cool before eating.
- Wipe up spills – avoid stove top or oven fires by cleaning up spills right away.
- Practice fire safety – grease fires should be smothered with pan lid or baking soda. (or leave the house and call 911.)
Oh yes, and have fun!
